A range of free workshops provided by Cheshire Scouts at The Heath Conference Centre

Managing Challenging Behaviour

The workshop will be led by Dr. Tony Lloyd and cover the following two areas:

  1. Understanding possible causes of distressed behaviour, different presentations including learning difficulty, anxiety and developmental delay.
  2. Strategies for leaders to manage, support and change such behaviours, including improving communication and conflict resolution in children and young people through activity-based exercises.

Understanding and Supporting ADHD

The workshop will be led by Colin Foley and is structured in two sections:

  1. What ADHD is and isn’t, including up-to-date research, key features, diagnostic criteria, comorbidities, executive functioning impairments, emotional disregulation and the different presentations of ADHD, including gender.
  2. Strategies that would work in a scouting session – including support for executive functioning, literacy, anxiety, movement and activity and therapeutic approaches.

Supporting Young Carers in Scouting

The workshop will be led by Lucy Jackson

This session with show Leaders in all sections how to spot ‘hidden young carers”, how to start a discussion with children about their caring role, how to provide positive support to a young carer and how Scouting can help transform their lives. These children can be socially isolated without friendship groups, very few outlets from the caring role and with limited self-confidence. Scouting can help build resilience but more importantly can give them back their childhood.

Practical Skills Training Day – 11th May 2019

Come along and have some fun enhancing your practical skills as a Leader which will aid you in delivering even better programmes for your Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts.
This is an ideal training day for new leaders of every section and Module 18 will be validated on the day.  It is also a way of completing some of your on-going learning (15 hours over 3 years).
You will have the opportunity to attend 7 sessions from all the skills bases on offer.

European Jamboree in Poland 2020

After a gap of nearly 15 years, since the UK hosted the last European Jamboree in 2005, the upcoming European Scout Jamboree will take place in Poland in July/August 2020. Building on the fantastic programme developed as part of their World Scout Jamboree bids the Scouts and Guides of Poland are putting on 11 days of activities, combining the chance to develop new skills. Based on its own island close to the city of Gdansk, the purpose built site is within walking distance of beautiful sandy beaches, pine forests and a short bus ride from the bustling city.

Cheshire has 5 District Units attending the Jamboree (Chester, Macclesfield & Congleton, Mersey Weaver, South West Cheshire and Warrington East).
