Cheshire Scouts News

Hi, welcome to February! Here’s an update from Cheshire Scouts.

Cheshire Scouts have a new County Commissioner

Dave Hopley has officially taken up the reigns from Graham Phillips, who completed his 12-year term of office on the 31st January.

After giving a personal thanks to his predecessor, Dave expressed how:
‘Scouting helped me as a young person gain skills and find my place in the world.  And I truly believe that Scouting is more important now than ever before, to give young people a sense of connection and belonging.  To give hope to a generation, to develop skills for life.’

Dave acknowledged that:
‘Clearly, the last ten months have been very challenging and certainly the next few months will continue to be.  But we will see a return to more face-to-face Scouting during 2021 and I am confident that Cheshire has the agility to lead the way with rebuilding Scouting.’

Dave said:
‘I have been humbled by the dedication of our inspiring adults across Cheshire, forced to adapt to a digital world overnight – up-skilled in new areas of digital technologies. Pulling together to implement things almost overnight, that would have taken months or years to implement.
The pandemic has tested our resilience, encouraged us to be innovative and increased our awareness of the importance of prioritising our mental health.’

Dave closed by thanking his partner, and everyone for the support & best wishes he has received and expressed how:
‘I am looking forward to working with our talented District Commissioner’s and the rest of Team Cheshire to build on Cheshire Scouting’s legacy of success and serving you all as your County Commissioner’.

It’s Childrens Mental Health Week

It’s #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek and this year the theme is ‘express yourself’. The Scouts have gathered some of our favourite ideas to help young people explore and release their creativity in the ways that suit them best.
