£100,000 made available to support Scouting in Cheshire
The County Executive has approved a special fund to be taken from our reserves specifically to support the return to face to face Scouting over the next 18 months. Clearly the circumstances we are in require bold action to support local delivery of Scouting and this is a clear statement of intent to make sure Cheshire Scouting continues to play a significant part in our local communities. The fund will be used in the following key areas;

County portion of capitation to be reduced by 50%
In 2021 the county portion of the capitation fee will be £4.25 for each youth member, which is a 50% reduction on the £8.50 charged this year. Based on this year’s numbers this a reduction of over £44,000 to be collected in 2021.

Discretionary Grant Fund of £40,000
This fund will be used to “top up” support from Groups & Districts who are supporting individuals unable to meet the total cost of their capitation fee.

Promotion, Retention & Recruitment Fund, £17,000
This fund will provide resources for the County to lead a recruitment campaign for both new adults to support delivery of Scouting and to encourage young people to join the adventure we call Scouting.

County all Leaders Call – Tuesday 28 July at 7pm

Just before many groups take a well-earned break over the summer months this call will provide a review of the last few months and discussion on the plans for a return to face to face Scouting. It will also look at some of the significant changes to the adult training scheme and the revised authorisation of activities from September onwards.
This event is open to all Leaders and adult supporters in Cheshire.

New County Youth Commissioner Team

Ed Lunnon has decided to step down as County Youth Commissioner after nearly 5 years in the post to focus on his new career. We’re sure you will join us in wishing him well for the future!

Ed says; “Being County Youth Commissioner has been amazing and the role perfectly complemented my studies at University, allowing me to give back to Scouting, it’s given me invaluable experience and has been a whole lot of fun.”

Ed has developed the Youth Commissioner role and Youth Forum in Cheshire and led some excellent initiatives including #YouShape In a Box and the increase in Youth Involvement at all levels for Chamboree, including the really successful Escape Rooms.

Moving forward we’re delighted to announce that a new team is now in place to build on the success of youth focused Scouting in Cheshire with the appointment of Alex Dodd (Chester & District) as the new County Youth Commissioner and Joe Fuller (Macclesfield & Congleton District) as Deputy County Youth Commissioner. They will be directly supported by Dave Hopley.

Alex Dodd, County Youth Commissioner (pictured left)
Has been involved with the County Youth Forum for the past 4 years and 1 of Cheshire’s 2 Nominated Youth Representative on the Council of The Scout Association. He is an Explorer Leader from Chester and a Youth Producer for Chester Gangshow. Outside of Scouting Alex is a full-time Electrical Engineer. He is looking to continue the high standard of Youth Shaped Scouting across the County and continue to drive the Youth Forum with meaningful Forums to ensure the County strives to meet its Youth Shaped Goals by 2023. You can contact Alex at [email protected] or [email protected] Follow @CheshireScoutYC on Twitter and CheshireScoutsYC on Facebook.

Joe Fuller, Deputy County Youth Commissioner (pictured right)
Joe has been a Young Leader with the Cub Scout section and was lucky enough to attend The World Scout Jamboree in North America as a member of the Cheshire contingent. Outside of Scouting Joe has been a Young Carer and will be studying Computer Science at University this year. Alex believes young people should have more of a say in their Scouting experience and wants to promote the achievement of top awards. You can contact Joe at [email protected] or e-mail the Youth Shaped team at [email protected]
