Census gets underway this weekend
This year has been tough, and we know that finances might be a barrier for some being able to take part in Scouts. In Cheshire we have many well-resourced Groups & Districts who are ready to help where required. It is really important that Groups complete their Census return with accurate and truthful numbers of members who are likely to re-engage once we return to f2f in addition to those participating in on-line sessions. Let’s remember that we are membership organisation, not a “pay as you go” leisure activity.

It is really important that ALL Groups have fully completed their census return by Friday 12 February 2021 at the very latest. Please remember that when you submit your return there is a process that your District needs to complete and then a process that County needs to complete.

Woodbadge & Mandatory Training

Cheshire offers a wide range of online training to help Leaders fulfil their training obligations including first aid. This also includes validation workshops for those who have completed the learning element of a module and simply need it validating and the recently released dates for manager modules (limited spaces still available).

To book onto one of these courses please go to the Cheshire Scouts Website to book onto the course you wish to attend

National all member online meeting – Thursday 11 February

Join the National Team on Thursday 11 February at 7pm when they will provide updates on what you can do to support the four key priority areas: delivering the programme, recruiting and motivating volunteers, keeping everyone safe, and funding Scouts.

Register now, you’ll need to do this to receive your joining information.

Help find the Chief Scout’s Unsung Heroes 2021

Nationally we’re on the lookout for 20 young people who’ve really gone above and beyond. They need to be UK Scouts aged 6–24 who’ve shown Scout values, courage, kindness and our ‘never give up’ spirit. They’ll each receive £500 to spend how they like. If you’d like to nominate a young person (not related to you) who deserves this award, please complete this form by 5pm on Tuesday 16 February.

We hope to announce the winners at the beginning of April.
If you nominate a member of your Group, make sure you tell your DC so they can support the nomination where required.

The Local Restriction Support Grant is now open to Scout Groups that are registered for business rates to receive between £4,000 and £9,000. If you received the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality grant from your local authority, you should also be eligible for this this new grant.

A number of Groups in Cheshire have already received their grant over the last 7 days. If yours has not arrived, then contact your local authority and if you need more support contact your DC.

New Youth Covid-19 Support Fund

After HQ lobbying the Government, along with other youth charities, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has now announced a new £16.5m fund to help pay for any shortfall during November 2020 and March 2021. It’s different to the recovery fund, so make sure you apply if you’re eligible.
