Video Message from the County Commissioner

We are incredibly proud that many Cheshire Scouters and family members already work in the NHS and they are working harder than ever.
We salute you.

We also know that a number of Cheshire Scouters and family members who were retired NHS staff have answered the call to help our NHS and either delayed their retirement or decided to go back to support colleagues.
We salute you.

We know a lot of Cheshire Scouters and family members work in the wider care sector and without them daily fulfilling their duties we really would be in a crisis.
We salute you.

We know a lot of Cheshire Scouters are teachers working hard to supply home working tasks or actually in school looking after the children of key workers. We salute you.

We know there are lots of Cheshire Scouters and family members working daily in jobs that are essential to keep the Country going and supporting front line NHS and Care services. We salute you.

Everybody else just needs to play his or her part and follow government advice and stay home.

Scouting continues, it might look different, it might feel different BUT it is still Scouting.

Our Action Plan

This is a fast moving situation that changes daily so here are some bullet points from how Cheshire Scouting is trying to respond to current challenges.

DC’s and core County Team are meeting weekly by conference call to coordinate our efforts, support each other and share best practice around Cheshire.

A Digital Task Force has been formed to support DC’s in the delivery of local scouting remotely. This team is also looking at how the County can best support Districts and front line leaders. Here are some of the things achieved so far;

We are pulling together ideas from around the world on how to inspire young people to become involved in Scouting at Home. Over the coming weeks this list of resources on the County website will grow. You can find the most up to date list at cheshirescouts.org.uk/homescouting
If you come across any good ideas you can submit them for possible inclusion on the list by sending your ideas to [email protected]

Social Media
We are linking our social media channels to District social media channels to share updates from Groups around the County who are actively delivering Scouting at Home.

We have launched a number of daily social media initiatives designed to support leaders and encouraging everybody to keep in touch with everybody and to support each other.

#SelfieSunday
Everybody is being encouraged to share a picture of what they are doing with their self-isolation time. Share using the hashtag #SelfieSunday on
– Facebook: Cheshire Scouts
– Twitter: @CheshireScouts
– Instagram: @CheshireScouts

#MondayMotivation
Each week we will share a motivational quote from our Chief Scout Bear Grylls.

#TipTuesday
Each week we will share a top tip for home scouting or self-care during self-isolation.

For #WellnessWednesday we’re launching;
Coffee Club Wednesday

Cheshire Scouts are encouraging local friends in Scouting to stay in touch with a virtual coffee club each Wednesday. If you need help setting your virtual coffee club up speak to your DC or email [email protected]
You can send us a picture of your coffee club to the e-mail address above also.

#ThrowbackThursday
Each week we will share a throwback to some of Cheshire Scouts best adventures.

#FoneAfriendFriday
Cheshire Scouts are encouraging everybody to Fone a Friend each Friday who they have not spoken with for at least the last 4 weeks. Let’s keep in touch with the people who are important to us and support each other in these challenging times.

#ShoutOutSaturday
Each week we’ll be encouraging you to give a #ShoutOut to your Cheshire Scouting Heroes.

But there is more …
Over the next few weeks we will announce a series on events and activities that everybody can become involved with (whatever your age). These will include;

CuBe a virtual camp with a weekend of activities
Bang out a Beat – inspired by the balcony singers of Italy
Promise online – a virtual event to bring the County together to remake our promise in a very special way.

Something for Leaders
Firstly we appreciate that many Scouters are busy working to support the national effort to get through this crisis, there are others who we know are concerned about vulnerable members of their family, others are concerned about their jobs and the financial pressure this places on their families. Scouting is important but your family comes first. Scouting can however provide you with a support network of like-minded friends who will always be prepared to have a chat with you. Remember Scouting is family and we should be supporting each other.
For those with time on their hands over the coming weeks we will be launching some online training and information events aimed at getting ourselves fully prepared to restart Scouting face to face as soon as it’s safe to do so. Don’t forget you can already complete most of your mandatory training online and we trying a virtual safeguarding course this week. Watch this space for more details.

Above all STAY SAFE and thank you for everything you doing for Scouting in Cheshire.
