Cheshire Scouts Newsletter
– 6 September 2020

We’re back!
After a well-earned break for August the County Team are back in action looking for ways to support sections, groups, districts as we start to consider what “blended scouting” will look like in Cheshire and how we get back to face to face scouting safely. Cheshire Scouting Newsletter is also back with our weekly update of opportunities for scouting in Cheshire and the new rules and guidance to support Scouting nationally, regionally and locally in Cheshire and your District.

Please make sure all your leaders and trustees are in the loop by sharing Scouting+ with them.

Cheshire’s Virtual Camp 25-27 September

A weekend focusing on how collectively we can have fun and protect our natural world. There will be activities designed for each section, a chance to camp out (or indoors if you prefer) plus ideas to help you get creative about making your local bit of the natural world a little bit better. The fun starts on Friday 25 September and then continues throughout the weekend.

In next weeks Cheshire Scouting Newsletter we will reveal the full weekend programme with a menu for you to start thinking about in preparation for our “virtual” camp.

Updates on managing face-to-face activity

An update has been published this week in relation to the national changes in Scouting.

The Bringing Everyone Back Together Safely webpages have updated confirmation of the changes for all members to view.

National update call for all Leaders

This will be held on Tuesday 6 October at 7pm where HQ plan to cover:

  • How you can restart your Group/section
  • The programme resources to support socially distanced Scouting
  • Training and how you can get up to date
  • Resources to help retain and recruit adults.

Keep an eye out on the all members’ online meeting page for joining details but for now, add the meeting to your calendar.

County Explorer Belt Expedition 2021

After careful consideration and consultation with DC’s it has been decided to postpone the planned County Explorer Belt Expedition to Iceland in 2021. The continued uncertainty around international travel, the restriction on face to face Scouting and the risk of buying flights that might have to be cancelled has left us with no alternative. Critical to this decision is the lack of opportunity to conduct fund raising and to take part in team building activities face to face.

We know that this will be a massive disappointment to many of those who registered interest and the organising team are equally disappointed at the postponement. Obviously those who are 18 and over could decide to make their own arrangements to complete the explorer belt but please remember it will be subject to approval for Scouting to resume international travel that will reflect UK Government guidance.

Moving forward discussions are continuing on when it will be possible to safely organise this trip to Iceland. Currently the favoured dates are in 2022, however it is becoming a busy year with Chamboree, the Moot in Ireland and we will have training taking place for the next world scout jamboree. Therefore it is likely to be late spring 2021 before a final decision is made.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
