Cheshire County Scout Council Annual General Meeting 2018

Tuesday 12 June 2018 – Reception 7:00pm – Meeting 7:30-9:30pm. Tea and coffee will be available before the meeting.

The County Chairman and County Commissioner invite you to join the Annual General Meeting of Cheshire County Scout Council to be held at The Lance Dobson Hall, University of Chester (Warrington Campus). The County President, Sir William Bromley-Davenport will preside.

Our guest speaker is Martin Howlett. Martin is a former Executive Head who continues to work in education as advisor to a number of Schools across Cheshire and North Wales. As an initial advisor to the government on the 2014 Children and families Act, Martin has had a broad experience in providing targeted opportunities for young people. Martin also is a special advisor on education to the Welsh Government. Added to this, Martin also works with a number of other organisations supporting young people across Cheshire including; Cheshire Young Carers, the Youth Federation, Cheshire Community Foundation, Youth United Cheshire and Cheshire Connect, an organisation that aims to link business with the third sector. He will be speaking on the influence that organisations like Scouting can have on the emotional wellbeing of young people, reflecting on the challenges in formal education and the positive influence that Scouting can have on young lives.

The Scout Experience Survey

The annual Scout Experience Survey, which replaces the many surveys we used to send, aims to find out how you, young people and parents feel about Scouting. The survey results will be used to improve Scouting’s impact, recruitment, external support and decisions on spending.

We’re aware that it’s a busy time at the moment with Ramadan and young people doing exams, however, it’s important that we get as many responses to the survey as possible.

Please complete the survey and then send it to volunteers and parents/carers who have been involved in Scouting in the last 12 months. If your role is directly with young people – Scouts, Explorers and Network members – please share the survey with them too.

Prize draw

As a thank you, everyone taking part has a chance of winning £500 to spend at Scout Store or Scout Adventures. Districts that secure the most responses will be entered into a similar draw for £1,000.

The survey takes between 15 and 30 minutes to complete and is easier to do on a computer rather than a phone. Please use the adult volunteer, parents/carers (Beavers or Cubs), parents/carers (Scouts and Explorers) and Scouts and Explorer Scout email/letter templates to make it easier for you to share the survey. The survey closes on Sunday 17 June 2018.

Queen’s Scout Working Party 75th Anniversary

In 2019, the Queen’s Scout Working Party – a National Scout Active Support Unit made up of Queen’s Scouts who support national events and the Top Awards – will be celebrating it’s 75th anniversary!

To mark the occasion, they are inviting former members of the QSWP to a celebration event at Gilwell Park in October 2019.

Reminder: Science Evening for Leaders

The Institute of Physics have kindly agreed to run a Science evening for our Science & Technology IST for Chamboree 2018 and we have been able to open this to all Cheshire leaders! This is a great opportunity for leaders wishing to incorporate Science into their programme.

Reminder: County Scout Sunday

Come and join us in Chester on Sunday June 10th 2018.

Warrington West are this year’s host Scout District. This year our singing will be accompanied by The Josh Walker Band.

15:00 – Districts Assemble for the parade on Abbey Lawn, access through Abbey Gateway on Town Hall Square.

Districts will gather together under the instruction of parade marshal Graham Shaw.

15:15- Once formed up, we march out of Abbey Square, led by Alderley District Scout Band, a circular route of the city centre streets and then into the Cathedral for 15:30.

The service includes an item when we all re-affirm our promises, section by section.

Also during the service a collection will be taken, this year this will be offered to MIND a mental health charity, in Cheshire.

16:15- The return parade will follow a similar route with the parade dismissing on Abbey Green.

This event is always masterminded by your Faith’s and Beliefs team, who are all looking forward to meeting you all again.
