GAIA: Chester Cathedral Cubs Sleepover

Opportunity

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Cubs and their leaders to sleep in Chester Cathedral under the famous GAIA. The artwork globe is being installed in the Cathedral in February and Cub Scouts in Cheshire have an opportunity to experience it at close quarters! Gaia is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram. Measuring seven metres in diameter and created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface, the artwork provides the opportunity to see our planet floating in three dimensions.

Programme

Cubs will arrive at 7pm on Saturday and finish at 8.30am Sunday morning. We encourage all Cubs to have eaten an evening meal before arriving. A late evening supper will be provided to all participants and leaders on Saturday night. Whilst participating in the event, Cubs will be able to engage in various activities including tours of the Cathedral, activities on themes of climate change, environmental awareness and global issues.

Equipment

Cubs and Leaders will be accommodated on the floor of the Cathedral nave. There is some very gentle underfloor heating which should make the floor more comfortable to sleep on. However, layers of warm clothes are highly recommended. All participants will require a sleeping bag, roll mat (or equivalent) and a pillow/or soft cushioning.

Cost

The cost is £26 per Cub Scout. This includes all the activities, supper, and breakfast during the sleepover at Chester Cathedral, as well as a limited-edition badge. This fee does not include travel to and from the venue. The cost per Leader attending is £10. All fees require to be collected before the day of the event.

Booking

All Cub Scouts attending must be part of a Cub Pack that is attending with Leaders.

The booking process is now closed. The event will host over 400 people.

Our team will immediately issue an invoice to each Pack following bookings closing, which will need to be paid before the event begins.

• Once a Pack has been registered with at least one leader, leaders will be able to register Cub Scouts to attend. Parents receive an email at this point to complete their profile containing personal information, medical information, dietary information and allergy information.
• Cub Scouts can be added and removed without any fees.
• On Sunday 5th February at 5pm, bookings will close and no further changes can be made.
