Promise To The Planet
Act now. Change tomorrow.
2021 has seen the launch of Promise To The Planet. This is an incredible youth-led global campaign against climate change. It’s our moment to say “enough is enough”. We are united with 57 million Scouts around the world in taking action and using our voices in the fight for our planet’s future. In the wake of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, we are making our very own pledge here in Cheshire!
Get involved nowVision
By 2023, all Cheshire Groups and Units will have achieved or completed an environmental project or taken climate action, impacting their local community in a fun, inclusive and youth-led manner.
Programme
Cheshire Scouts are here to help! We would like to encourage your Drey, Colony, Pack, Troop or Unit to complete an environmental project or take local climate action. This could be as fun as building bug hotels, planting seeds, upcycling objects, planting trees, designing water filters or as inspiring as climate change debates with local councillors or MPs. Perhaps even as epic as cultivating a local wild space. Whatever you choose to do with your section, think creatively about what you can do together and begin imaging the amazing combined impact we could have. You can download your very own Promise To The Planet Cheshire Handbook from the Cheshire Scouts website today.

By taking part in a PTTP project, young people will qualify for the Promise To The Planet Badge. This is a fun/campfire blanket badge and is available at The Scout Store, alongside other cool PTTP merchandise. As well as this, most environmentally-themed activities will cover requirements of young people’s badges and Top Awards. Try to think about how best to work challenge, activity and core badge work into your programme using themed activities.
Voices
Using the voices of young people is crucial. We should motivate them to speak out about climate change and the effects it has on their futures. You have the opportunity to share what you get up to with Scouts UK by recording your action. You can find out more via our web page. We also want to hear from you about the projects and actions you achieve. Email Team Cheshire or speak up on social media using @CheshireScouts and the hashtags #PromiseToThePlanet and #CheshirePTTP.
Legacy
Keep up to date with what is happening across the county by regularly visiting our Promise To The Planet web page. Throughout the year, we will keep you posted with updates from across Cheshire to showcase how others are progressing. We will also do our best to update the site with more and more programme ideas. Our legacy: “to leave this world a better place than we found it”.
